Shock at BNP coin sticker

A Sheffield shopkeeper has called in the police after he was handed a coin covered with a BNP sticker.

Zahid Ahmed, aged 39, who runs DJ's News in Crookes, said he was shocked to receive the coin and believes it was deliberately given to him as a racist gesture by a supporter of the British National Party.

The married father-of-two, who is originally from Pakistan and has run his business since December, said he did not notice who gave him the coin but it was handed over last Sunday morning.

"When I spotted it I could not believe it - I was shocked and upset to think that somebody would come into my shop and give it to me," he said. "The BNP only accept white people, so this could be the party's way of spreading their message but Britain is a multi-cultural society. I have lived here since 1997 and have always worked – I have never claimed benefits in my life. I am contributing to society and do not expect to be treated like this - it is disappointing.

"The police say they have not had any other reports like this but if anybody out there has received a coin like this they need to come forward so that the police can get to the bottom of it. I see this as a form of racial abuse."

A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said the incident was being treated as a one-off. She said: "Officers have attended at the address of the complainant. After speaking to the shopkeeper, police do not believe the £1 coin with the BNP sticker covering the back of the coin, was directly targeted at the shopkeeper. Police currently believe this to be a one-off incident, as no other similar incidents have been reported."

To report a similar incident call police South Yorkshire Police on 0114 2202020.

More gimmickry from the BNP like the Jesus posters, the 'top model' who promptly disappeared and the teddy bear named Muhammed. Gimmicks but no policies. And they wonder why nobody with a brain takes them seriously.

There's a post on Scumfront somewhere discussing these things.

thousands of these are being put out all over the country before the election

On the one hand, that's vaguely clever, on the other, most places won't accept any coinage with them on (legal tender refers only to a court ordered debt, your local tesco's could start selling everything only by weight of coal if they wanted to) and they'll look a massive bunch of tits, again.

Additionally, I know for a fact it's a £200 fine for defacing a bank note, I wonder if the same applies to coins, not that the state would ever prosecute their pet fascists or anything.

Some scumbag must have printed the circle to stick on coins. Shame the shopkeeper didn't recognise the customer.

Maybe they were designed to be stuck to coins for BNP football hooligans to chuck at goalkeepers at football matches. There's been an increase of incidences of coin chucking at football matches in particular in the championship division.

So much for the BNP's sham patriotism. It's a criminal offence to deface the Queen's head on money, I've been told!

"It's a criminal offence to deface the Queen's head on money, I've been told!"

Presumably that's why, according to Stormfront, they are only used on one side of the coin, the reverse.

Still smacks of desperation, what next BNP match boxes, lighters and colostomy bags?

Why did the shopkeeper need to say he doesn't claim benefits ?

"Why did the shopkeeper need to say he doesn't claim benefits ?"

Presumably to validate himself as a worthwhile member of society. It's amazing how many people now believe only those who work count.

Whoever thought up this idea is a fucking idiot. It'll irritate the shit out of everyone.

They may have just shot themselves in the face.

The BNP are nothing more than a 3rd rate circus, why oh why don't the powers that be just ban them? then if they stick their heads up again lock them all up, I for one would sleep as lot better at night with them all behind bars.

These bastard coins are everywhere.

The IRA used to do that sort of thing back in '70s. It's interesting to see the BNP using the same tactics as a terrorist organisation.

Wouldn't be the first time for Griffin.

Thanks DOTW for finding the references.

So far as the EU elections are concerned "Election Costs and expenses, and substituted expenditure" has been running since March.

I would argue that the value of the one pound coin should be included.

Again use a scraper to remove any sticker, there may be dog cr*p or bits of Razor underneath as we saw in the past.
